Foot and Ankle Pain: Which Assessment Is Right for You?

Two pairs of bare feet raised upwards in the sunshine

Foot and ankle pain can affect everything from walking and working to running and enjoying the activities you love. Sometimes the painful area is not the whole story, which is why we look at how your feet and body move—not just where it hurts.

At One Step Ahead Podiatry in Whitefield, we offer three levels of biomechanical assessment.

Bronze Biomechanical Assessment – £80

Duration: 45 minutes

Our Bronze assessment is suitable for a new problem that has generally been present for less than six weeks.

We will examine the painful area and assess how your foot moves while standing and walking. We will explain what may be causing your symptoms and discuss the most appropriate treatment options.

Premade orthoses may be fitted during the appointment if suitable. Footscan analysis and a 3D foot scan can be arranged at a further appointment if needed.

Silver Biomechanical Assessment with Footscan – £110

Duration: 60 minutes

Silver provides a more detailed assessment of how your feet work when they are carrying your body weight.

Alongside a full examination, we use our Footscan pressure plate to measure how pressure travels through each foot while standing and walking. This can identify differences between your feet and help us understand how your movement may be linked to your pain.

Your treatment plan could include exercises, laser therapy, manual therapy, footwear advice or premade or custom-made orthoses.

Gold Biomechanical Assessment with Footscan and Video – £145

Duration: 80 minutes

Gold is our most comprehensive assessment and is particularly useful for more complex or longstanding problems, as well as walking or running-related pain.

It includes everything within the Silver assessment, together with video analysis of you walking or running on a treadmill. Combining Footscan pressure data with video allows us to look more closely at how your feet and body move and how this may relate to your symptoms.

We will then discuss our findings and create an individual treatment plan to help you move forward.
